A whole life

"Gahh! Now i have turned 22, and im starting to get old. And what have i accomplished? Nothing!", said the son to his father.

The father answered comforting but determined: "Starting to get old? Son, i am twice your age. What should a man like me say then? Youre still a young man with your whole life ahead of you. You will accomplish much in your life! Believe me."

The boy said nothing. He smiled shortly and looked thoughtful, while his father looked at him and thought about how little time seemed to have pass since he was a little kid.

"Im going out tonight", said the son, in a quick manner. "But i see you in the family dinner on Sunday".

"See you then", said the father.

The door shut down, and the father drank a glass of brandy while he wondered about how the boys future would be. He had experienced so much in his life, and was happy to think about that great things also would happen for his son. The world had much to offer. So many faces, so many expressions, so much joy.

It went late in the evening, and the time was about 12. The phone rang. Mom, which had come home several hours ago from shopping, took the phone. She wondered, naturally, who it could be this late.

The father woke up on the sofa in the living room, and heard her became still while she held the phone in the aisle. She went to the living room, clearly pale, and looked at her husband with big eyes. "Its Jonathan. Hes been hit by a car."

"Yes?!And...?", the father answered, quickly raising up from the couch.

"Hes dead".

"A whole life", was the words the father gave his son, without thinking that it wasnt a matter of course. In correlation with the tears that fall down his face, the father had guilt, for not appreciating enough the moments with his son.

But actually he appreciated the moments, more than most people, with a person who too soon wasnt there anymore. It was a father who had shown his son what the love of a father really is. The son would feel a fathers love once again, but much stronger, where he now was headed.

There was a full and whole live. A life so full that it would have no end.
